An ornate Naval Commission, appointing Hoosea J. Babin as an assistant surgeon in the Navy.This Naval Commission was the start of a long and illustrious career for Hoosea, who went from assistant surgeon, to Surgeon in 1876, to Medical Inspector in 1894 and to Medical Director by 1898. An attractive Naval commission in lovely collectible condition. Signed Johnson appointments are uncommon when signed by hand as he had hurt his hand during his Presidency and often used a rubber stamp for his signature.
